For the reading of an extract of The Story of Gil Blas of Santillane, a picaresque narrative and a novel about social ascension from the beginning of XVIII th century, we will question some of the processes and effects of the foolish narration. We come across the model of the farce, the games of parody, the controversial genre of satire : on the one hand, they aim to make the readerlaugh or smile, but they also give rise to thinking, especially when, all things considered, the « moral judgement » is so to speakimpeded.

This study concerns 51 marble finds made of “Cipollino verde” coming from the ancient city of Italica (north of the modern city of Santiponce, 9 km NW of Seville, Spain), the earliest Roman settlement in Spain, founded in 206 B.C. The aim of this work was to determine their provenance from Greek and Italian quarries or from local quarries worked in the Iberian Peninsula. Thin-section optical microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, bulk rock chemistry and O, C and Sr stable isotope analyses were carried out. The eleventh-century manuscript known as the Codex Farnesianus (now Naples, BNN, IV. A. 3) sole medieval witness of Sextus Pompeius Festus' work De verborum significatione, transmits Aelius Gallus' definition of the legal concept of possession (Fest. pp. 260-262 L.). The interpretation of this definition entirely depends on the reconstruction of the text. Two passages are problematical because of two blank spaces (fol. 11r int., lin. 3 and lin. 4), in connection with which the scribe characterizes the model of the manuscript as 'blind' (caecus).
